this is my last picture of the krefeld (germany)-based ‘horten‘-department store. the company owned buildings similar to this one all across germany, all had in common these typical facade-tiles designed 1960 by german architect Egon Eiermann. the building shown here had its great opening in april 1970, so it was another real pearl of the 70s architecture [of doom].
horten disappeared from the market by the end of the 90s of the last milennium, the building had different new owners and a three-year-closing since then. an investor showed mercy with krefeld and right now the whole complex gets a general rebuild including new facade and store-concept.
